As the COO of the Latino Institute for Development, Education
& Responsibility (LIDER), Margo is responsible for implementing
the organization’s literacy and education programming for
Latino communities throughout the US.
Margo studied in Mexico and Guatemala in high school and returned
to Central America after receiving a degree in Latin American
Studies and Marketing from the University of Arizona. As the Trade
Officer at the Canadian Embassy in Guatemala, she assisted public
and private sector clients with their marketing and business development
objectives.
During her career in Central America as an experienced Marketing
& PR professional, Margo developed skills for sourcing market
intelligence used to develop marketing plans, communications tools
and business networks, as well as strong leadership skills for
organizing creative and complex public affairs events. When she
returned to the United States, her priority was to identify an
opportunity to use this experience in combination with cultural
and language skills.
In 2001, she signed on as the Marketing Director for Taller del
Éxito, Inc., a fully Hispanic-owned publishing house in
Florida. She developed a passion for the Outreach Programs she
created for public libraries and community-based organizations.
When the CEO, Dr. Camilo Cruz, offered her a chance to work side-by-side
to develop a non-profit organization that would allow him to fully
support other Latinos to achieve their American Dream, she did
not hesitate and became the COO in January, 2005.
